As such, our school community has clearly identified our core values and beliefs.
A School for the Wider Community Immanuel Lutheran College is very much a part of the wider community. We see education as a partnership between the family, the College and the wider community. The Immanuel Lutheran Church is situated on our campus and students use this facility regularly. Our buildings are constantly being used for weekend expos and exhibitions. Our Sports Stadium is used by school and community sporting teams most nights of the week. Students participate in community service each year. Our swimming pool is open to the general public. Grandparent's Day is an annual event which brings people from all over Australia and the world onto our campus and is enjoyed immensely by both Grandparents and students. We invite you to visit our College to discuss your child's educational future. Choosing the right school for your family is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. We offer young people an education in the Christian tradition and we stand on a solid foundation of academic excellence. Immanuel Lutheran College has a strong reputation as a distinctive Christian and caring school providing a complete education from Kindergarten through to Year 12. The College is situated on a magnificent 21.5 hectare site with rainforest surrounds and caters for students academically, culturally, socially, spiritually and physically. Our College comprises of two Sub-schools:
Each sub-school has its own Head of School, responsible to the Principal for day to day operations, and its own staff who form close relationships with students in their care. Teachers in each sub-school are experienced and dedicated in providing your child with the highest standards of comprehensive education. Home Groups are a special feature of our College in the Secondary School and provides a pastoral care structure for our students. Home Groups develop their own character and provide support for students in a variety of ways: devotions, school swimming, cross country, athletics, drama, public speaking, cultural activities and camps. Leadership and co-operation are also fostered through the Home Group System. In Junior School , students spend most of the day with their year level teacher. This enables teachers to develop a close relationship with each child. A K-12 College enables students to continue in the one School and on the one Campus for their Junior and Secondary education. Immanuel offers the ideal start for your child and continuity of learning across Years K-12 within a Christian context. The Junior School is a happy, vibrant part of the school and caters for students aged 5 to 11. In our caring learning environment, children develop academically and socially. The diversity of each child's experience is valued and their individual needs and interests are met. Kindergarten Kindergarten is for children aged 3 – 5 years. Our program is designed to provide the maximum opportunity to experience a variety of materials, ideas and social situations at a level appropriate to the individual child. Prep Year The Prep Year at Immanuel is one of transition as students progress towards their formal years of schooling. A full time program is offered. The curriculum is play based, teacher directed and child initiated. The Prep program uses the Queensland Early Years' Curriculum. A large focus of the Prep Program is also on developing relationships within the classroom and school community. Years 1-6 Our curriculum focuses on producing students who are life long learners. The nationally recognised Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, The Arts, SOSE, Science, Health & Physical Education and Technology form the basis of classroom programs. Additional classroom support is offered through programs such as Support-a-Reader, Reading Recovery, Learning Support and Enrichment. Throughout each year students are involved in camps, excursions and other co-curricular activities. These activities include inter-school sporting programs and carnivals as well as many cultural and academic activities. A particular emphasis is placed on developing a love of learning. In the Junior School , children are encouraged to develop a caring attitude towards peers and a love of the world in which they live. Teaching occurs within a warm and caring atmosphere, providing students with a stimulating and disciplined educational environment. Our well designed and very effective Behaviour Management Program centres on the four key concepts of caring for yourself, caring for others, caring for your learning and caring for your school. Students are made aware of their responsibilities in relation to each of these concepts. Those showing responsibility participate in the very popular Gold Pass Day at the end of each term. A fee for service Outside School Hours Care Program is available. After School Care operates each afternoon on school days. A full time Vacation Care Program operates during gazetted school holidays and on student free days. All students are encouraged to pursue excellence in their chosen pathways. A unique and outstanding feature of the Immanuel Secondary School is the 4 week Mt Binga Outdoor Education experience for Year 10 students. Students acquire musical knowledge within the classroom as well as through private, individual or group lessons, school orchestras, bands or ensembles. Involvement helps develop the students' creative, spiritual and cultural potential and provides the opportunity to participate in international tours. Musical groups within the College perform regularly in the local community, enabling students to gain experience in performing for an audience.Immanuel offers a broad range of experiences in which students are encouraged to participate. Offerings in the fields of art, music, drama and sport assist in the development of the whole person. Outdoor EducationCamps encourage social development with a balanced program of field studies and outdoor education. Camps range from one night experiences in the Junior School through to leadership camps in higher year levels. A highlight is our outdoor education experience in Year 10, conducted at Mt Binga, a former forestry camp, located in the Blackbutt Ranges . Attendance is compulsory and students enjoy horse-riding, rock climbing, abseiling, bushwalking and orienteering activities. Discipline One of the most important things that a school must do is to establish an atmosphere where each student is able to learn to the best of his or her ability. At Immanuel Lutheran College we aim to achieve this by a careful and thoughtful linking of the two areas of discipline and pastoral care. Fruehlingsfest Our College's spring fair is held annually in August. Relationships exist with schools in Germany , Canada and Asia . An overseas touring program has developed and cultural and sporting tours are available to students from Years 6 to 12.
