Instrumental Music Application

Immanuel’s highly acclaimed Instrumental Music program is one of the College’s key strengths. Our students are committed to excellence and perform regularly at events across the Sunshine Coast.

Lessons are available on campus for piano, singing, music theory, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, tuned percussion and untuned percussion. Many parents are unsure whether it is worth their child learning a musical instrument or which instrument to learn. To assist parents in this regard, a Music Aptitude Test is available and can be arranged by contacting the College's Main Administration Office.

Students may begin piano lessons in Year 3, violin/viola/cello lessons in Year 3 and all remaining instruments in Year 5. In exceptional circumstances, applications will be considered for students wishing to begin learning at a younger age. Lessons are held in class time – in group or individual lessons – on a rotational basis. The current rates for lessons are $25 per half hour for group lessons (maximum of three students) and $34.00 per half hour for individual lessons, plus GST if applicable. Parents will be advised by the tutor if individual tuition is more appropriate in certain instances.

The College recognises the importance of communicating any fee increases and tutors are required to contact families directly if they choose to increase their fees in accordance with the Music Teachers Association of Queensland (MTAQ). Tuition is paid directly to the music tutor one term in advance.

Several music bursaries are also available which provide free tuition and instrument hire. Application forms may be downloaded from the College website or collected from the Main Administration Office or Secondary School Office. Applications for music bursaries (not scholarships) close in Week 1 of Term 1 each academic year.
